After working with the med-tech startup company, Meri Health, for a few months, I felt quite responsible and trustworthy. The fact that I was being trusted with and guided to do such advanced work and experience a small part of a maturer world left me slightly doubting my abilities, but it was alright since my pride made up for it. As an intern (and the youngest member on board), I wasn't often charged with any major tasks, however, I did get a say in many matters and was still kept busy inside and outside of the office. I was able to contribute to the team by combining the IB design criteria format with the information provided to me through my (or other team members) observations during pilot field operations. This resulted in a detailed process journal of the company’s project. Additionally, I was also trusted with social media management and design, given my age and perspective.
Moving forward, recently Meri Health was invited to attend “Google for Startups AI Academy India 2024,” a 3-day long interactive seminar organised by Google, hosted at IIT Delhi. With the aim of promoting the establishment of human-centered AI solutions, the program is structured as a three-day bootcamp to support early-stage startups. By utilising artificial intelligence (AI) to address problems in the fields of healthcare, climate change, agriculture, education, financial inclusion, cybersecurity, and public infrastructure. Although I wasn't able to attend the first two days of the bootcamp (due to school), I was in attendance for the third and final day.
Though it was a lengthy 9 hours long, the flow of the day was extremely balanced and organized. The schedule provided attendants time to attend the timed interactive and informative seminars, eat amazing food, and converse with mentors and their entrepreneurial peers. The day included sessions on AI powered marketing, finding funding, and storytelling for startups. Though all these sessions were incredibly informative, the day was made complete by a focused mentoring session with one of the mentors/speakers in the seminar, who provided us a fresh new perspective on how to tackle the challenges we’re currently facing as a startup. Aside from the above, the seminar also allowed us to have productive discussions and Q&A sessions with successful entrepreneurs, AI professionals, and members of the Google team. These were incredibly educational as they provided real-world insights and practical advice that we can apply to our own startup journey.
Overall, my experience at the boot camp was exhilarating. Every session was interactive and amusing but still packed with relevant and easily comprehensible information. From the mentors to the organisers to the other attendants of the seminar, everyone was extremely friendly, respectful, and inquisitive, enhancing the experience even further.
